How to Prepare Your Plumbing System for your Newborn’s Arrival

Having a newborn is one of the most beautiful and exciting events in the lives of most Aussies.  As part of the anticipation, parents all too often find themselves preparing for the baby’s arrival by cleaning the house, purchasing baby stuff, child-proofing, and renovating parts of the house, especially the baby’s room.  The focus often tends to linger on the exteriors simply because parents think of the baby’s comfort foremost.

But do you know that having a newborn is not just about toys, sleepless nights, and lullabies?

As they say, it takes a village to raise a child.  Reality strikes when the baby has already entered your home, and you will find that your comfort as a parent matters a lot so you can take care of your baby in the most convenient way possible.

Having said this, if you are expecting and preparing for your newborn’s arrival, you must also consider addressing and preparing your home’s basic systems, like your plumbing system, as it is very essential to your family’s health.

Here are some of the ways that you can prepare your plumbing system before your baby comes.

1. INSTALLING A DIAPER SPRAYER

Cloth diapers are very big now in the market.  They are very economical and environment friendly.  Instead of disposing of them after use, you can just wash and reuse them a hundred times over.  Newborn babies use a ton of diapers each day, and so diaper sprayers can be a huge help to parents.  You can easily wash off the mess on the cloth diapers before you run them in the washing machine.

2. INSTALLING A WATER SOFTENER

If you don’t have it yet, then it’s about time you do.  Most homes have hard water, and it is not safe for the newborn’s sensitive skin as it dries out hair and skin.  It also makes cleaning difficult.

3. CHECK YOUR WATER HEATING SYSTEM

Babies have lower tolerance to extreme temperatures unlike adults.  Hot water can easily scald your baby and burn their tender skin.  So it is best to have your heater checked and reduced to 120 degrees Fahrenheit or less.  Also have your heater checked for damages, leaks and corrosions.

4. CLEAN YOUR WATER LINES

Clean water is very important to your family’s health.  However, no one is exempted from sediments that build-up over time.  This causes clogs and other residues to come out of the faucets.  Clearing out your pipes ensures that your water is safe for the family, especially for the baby.

  1. PURCHASE AND INSTALL BABY-PROOFING PRODUCTS

When you visit the hardware store, you may find a lot of baby-proofing products that you can install in your home.  You can purchase toilet lids, faucet covers, outlet covers, and more.  These can help protect the baby from hurting him/herself when he/she moves around.  A spigot cover also comes in handy, as this helps you determine the right water temperature and prevents your baby from getting burned.

As you are about to embark on a new journey with your little one, keep in mind that your home is their haven.  We want them to live in a happy and hazard-free environment, and your plumbing system is one of the important things that you should look into in preparation for the arrival of the newest member of the family. That’s why if you think that you can’t prepare your plumbing system all by yourself prior to your newborn’s arrival, availing Concord plumbing services can always be your last resort.
